The University of Wisconsin Badger's and the Providence College Friars Women's hockey teams will open their respective seasons on October 2nd-3rd at Sharks Ice at San Jose with a two-game series. Wisconsin and Providence have not met since November 28th, 2009, when the Badgers defeated the Friars, 4-1, in Providence, Rhode Island.
Open practices are scheduled for both teams on Thursday, October 1st, at Sharks Ice. Game one of the series will begin Friday at 7 PM and game two is scheduled for 3 PM on Saturday.
"San Jose has hosted multiple national championships for the girls, USA Hockey has been out there and it presents a great opportunity to expose Division I women's hockey to that part of the country," said Wisconsin Head Coach Mark Johnson. "It should be a great weekend of hockey and, at the same time, an opportunity for both teams to give back as we will gather Sunday morning and put a clinic on for youth girl hockey players in the area."
The series will also feature Jr Sharks alumna and Providence senior, Lexi Romanchuk. Lexi, a birth year '94 defenseman for the Friars, played the majority of her youth career with the Jr Sharks and earned academic honors at Valley Christian High School.
