Over the course of two days, February 23rd and 24th, the NAPHL hosted their annual NAPHL Top Prospects Tournament. This season, the tournament was held in Ann Arbor, MI, home of USA Hockey’s National Development Team.
The Jr Sharks were represented by six players; four forwards, one defenseman and one goalie. All of the skaters competed on the West team while the goalie competed on the Great Lakes Team. Forwards Felix Takacsi-Nagy, Eric Pinsky, Ryan Meure and Aaron Burden, defenseman Trevor Weinstock and goalie Devin Cooley were the selected participants.
Takacsi-Nagy finished the tournament with 6 points in 3 games, tied for 2nd in the tournament. Pinsky finished with 1 goal and 1 assist, while Burden finished with 2 goals and 2 assists. Meure, who is tendered with the Kenai River Brown Bears, finished the weekend with 1 assist. Weinstock finished the tournament with no points but was a strong presence on the blueline. Cooley, who is tendered with the Springfield Jr. Blues, finished the weekend with a 2.01 goals against average and an impressive .941 save percentage, stopping 48 of 51 shots.
The NAPHL annually hosts their U18 Top Prospects Tournament in an effort to showcase the best talent in the league and help them find more avenues to junior hockey.
