The San Jose Jr Sharks Girls 19UAAA team has won it's third consecutive Pacific District Championship to earn their spot at the 2019 USA Hockey National Championships taking place in Irvine, CA, April 4th-8th.
The two previous championships were at the 19U Tier 2 level and this season, at the 19U Tier 1 level. This season's District Tournament was held in Anchorage, AK. The 19U Tier 1 division consisted of two teams, the Jr Sharks and the Anchorage North Stars. The teams faced off in a best of three series, starting Friday, March 1st.
The Sharks got off to a good start in game one, but unfortunately fell short of the win with a 3-2 overtime loss to Anchorage. Game two, the Sharks proved to be the stronger contender by defeating the North Stars in a decisive 4-1 win.
The championship game had no shortage of excitement. The Sharks had a strong lead with 3 goals early in the 3rd period when the momentum began to shift. Anchorage scored 2 quick goals to cut the lead to 1. The Sharks were able to answer back with another goal making the score 4-2. The Sharks got into a bit of penalty trouble late in the third, allowing the North Stars to close the gap with another goal. In the end, the Sharks were able to maintain the 4-3 lead to win it.
