US Center for SafeSport Program

The US Center for SafeSport Program is designed to prevent abuse and maximize the safety of our participants in the on-ice and off-ice environment. The SafeSport Training is part of the program and is intended to heighten awareness of those that are in supervisory positions over youth participants. We recognize that adding additional educational requirements increases the burden on our coaches and other volunteers, but as the primary and most direct leaders and supervisors of our youth teams, it is critical that they are trained in ways that can help prevent abuse within our programs. Additionally, providing a safe environment for your participants helps recruit and retain players, and enhances our program.

For the 2018-2019 season, the USA Hockey SafeSport Training is required of all registered coaches and team managers before team sessions start. The online training is available at no cost to registered USA Hockey Members. A current USA Hockey Membership is required to take the training which is comprised of short video segments that take approximately 90 minutes to complete. The training, which does not need to be completed in one sitting, was produced by the US Center for SafeSport.

CAHA Screening Program

The California Amateur Hockey Association (CAHA) participates in an online background screening program in partnership with Verified Volunteers and the Pacific District. All coaches, officials, managers and other individuals who have routine access to children must consent to be screened and complete the Verified Volunteers screening process.

All JSHL coaches must have their names on the CAHA Screening Compliance list before they take the ice or have contact with their team. To view the CAHA Screening Compliance List, please click HERE.

For more information about the CAHA Screening Program, please go to http://caha.com/view.pl?p=screening/index.htm.

Please note that if you are currently on the CAHA Screening Compliance list due to coaching with a travel team, you do not need to re-take the background check.
