El Segundo, California was the site of last weekend’s LA Super99 Series, where the San Jose Jr. Sharks went 4-2-0 to capture top honors.

In their opening game on Friday morning, the Jr. Sharks faced off against Team Seattle. They dominated the opening period, outshooting Team Seattle 9-1, while outscoring them 1-0. Neither team could muster up much offense in the second period, as the score remained 1-0 heading into the final period of regulation. At the 9:40 mark of the third, the Jr. Sharks doubled their lead as they received an even strength goal. This goal was the only of the period as the Jr. Sharks held on for the 2-0 win.

They laced up the skates for the second time on Friday to take on the host team, the LA Jr. Kings. The Jr. Sharks did not play their best period and found themselves down 1-0 after one period.  The Jr. Kings scored the only two goals of the second period, giving their team the 3-0 lead heading into the final period. San Jose struck first in the third, a power play goal, but the Jr. Kings answered with the next tally. The Jr. Sharks then cut the lead in half, but that was as close as they would get, as they fell 4-2.

Early Saturday morning the Jr. Sharks were back in action, this time taking on the Phoenix Jr. Coyotes. Phoenix was the only team to score in the opening 15 minutes. Later that period, the Jr. Sharks cut in half at the 10:50 mark on a power play goal. Down 2-1 in the third, San Jose struck again on the power play to tie things up at two. Both goalies played excellent the remainder of regulation, sending the game into a shootout, where the Jr. Coyotes came out victorious.

After two straight losses, the Jr. Sharks knew they would have to turn things around if they wanted any momentum heading into the semi-finals and they did just that, defeating Team Seattle once again, this time by the score of 5-1.

On Sunday morning the Jr. Sharks had a rematch with the Jr. Coyotes in the semi-finals. The game was scoreless after one period, with the Jr. Coyotes holding the 5-4 advantage in shots. In the second, the Jr. Sharks got on the board first at the :52 second mark. Phoenix answered with the final goal of the period a few minutes later.  With the game tied at one in the final period, the Jr. Sharks regained the lead with a goal. They struck again less than four minutes later, on the power play, giving the Jr. Sharks the 3-1 lead.  The Jr. Sharks held on to the lead to advance to the finals, where they would face-off against LA Jr. Kings.

The Jr. Sharks fell behind 7:50 into the opening period as  LA  converted on the power play. San Jose answered late in the period, tying the score heading into the second. San Jose went up 2-1 early in the period, but the Jr. Kings responded with a goal to knot it up once again. Both goalies and defenses were great in the third, resulting in neither offense being able to find the back of the net. With the score tied 2-2 at the end of regulation, the game went to a shootout.  San Jose came out victorious, capturing the shootout goal.
