The Jr. Sharks Midget 16AA boy’s team traveled to SoCal for the 1st CAHA weekend of the season. The event was hosted at the Iceoplex located in Escondido, California, Oct. 22-23, 2011. The Jr. Sharks had four games on their schedule with two each day - LA Hockey and OC Hockey 1 on Saturday and OC Hockey 2 and Riptide on Sunday.

The boys played hard in both their games on Saturday. Coming into the weekend LA Hockey and OC Hockey 1 were two of the top ranked teams in the league. They kept it close with LA Hockey through the first and second period but ended up losing the game by a score of 4-2. In the second contest of the day against OC Hockey 1 the Sharks lost 6-1. The game was closer than the score suggests. A difficult stretch of penalties against the Sharks gave OC Hockey 1 an opportunity to score a few quick goals.

Sunday brought with it a chance for the boys to earn their first win of the weekend. Things started off with a tough 6-3 loss to OC Hockey 2 in the morning. A bright spot in the game was the determination of the team to play hard to the finish. They were able to close out the game with a strong performance and scored two of their three goals late in the game. The team really picked it up in the 3rd period and played their brand of Jr. Shark’s hockey.

In the final game on Sunday against Riptide they battled for three strong periods scoring a flurry of goals in the 3rd period. It wouldn’t prove to be enough to earn them the victory as Riptide won the game 8-5. The Jr. Sharks can take away some positive things from the weekend. They played hard and finished each game strong. In addition they didn’t get shut out in any of their games.

They look forward to their 2nd CAHA weekend coming up Nov. 11-13, 2011 on home ice in San Jose.
